Trust & Verification

Trust & Verification — Chicago, IL

We back every claim on this page with proof. Here's how each of our trust commitments is verified for the Chicago mobile notary team.

How our notaries are vetted

Before a notary takes a single signing for us, we verify each of the items below. Renewals are tracked so coverage never lapses mid-assignment.

  1. 01

    State commission verification

We confirm every notary holds an active commission with their state's commissioning authority before they take a single signing.

  2. 02

    Background check provider & cadence

All notaries are screened by an accredited background check provider at onboarding and re-screened periodically per NNA-aligned standards.

  3. 03

    $1M E&O insurance

Every notarization is backed by $1,000,000 in errors & omissions insurance, well above the typical $25K–$100K minimums most notaries carry.

  4. 04

    Surety bond per state

Each notary carries the surety bond their state requires (amounts vary — for example California requires $15,000) so the public has a financial remedy if a notarial duty is breached.

  5. 05

    NNA certification

All notaries are NNA Certified — they have passed the National Notary Association's certification exam and follow its Code of Professional Responsibility.

  6. 06

    Ongoing training

Notaries in our network complete annual continuing-education refreshers covering statute updates, document categories (POA, deeds, loan signings, apostilles), and identity-fraud red flags so practice keeps pace with current law.

  7. 07

    Renewal cadence

Commissions, bonds, E&O, and background checks are tracked on a calendar so renewals never lapse mid-assignment.

Every trust claim — with a proof link

Each headline trust claim we make on the site is paired with a link you can use to verify it independently.

  • NNA Certified Notaries

Every notary in our network completes the National Notary Association's certification course and exam.

  • $1M Errors & Omissions Insurance

Each notarization is backed by $1,000,000 in professional E&O coverage so you're protected if a mistake is made.

  • Background Checked

All notaries pass a criminal background screening before joining our network and are re-screened on a recurring cadence.

  • Bonded in Every State We Serve

Each commissioned notary carries the surety bond required by their state — protection for the public if a notarial duty is breached.

  • 5-Star Rated Service

Independently rated 5 stars by clients across the five cities we serve. We do not edit or filter our reviews.

  • Verified Local Business

Listed under our legal entity, Notary On Demand LLC, on a public business directory so you can confirm we're a real, registered company.

Notarial acts in Illinois are governed by 5 ILCS 312 (Illinois Notary Public Act). Every Notary on Demand professional in Chicago is commissioned and in good standing under these statutes.

Illinois Notary Law — What Chicago Signers Should Know

Every notarization on this page is performed under 5 ILCS 312. Here's the short version of how Illinois notary law affects your appointment.

Fees in Illinois

Illinois caps standard in-person notary fees at $5 per notarial act and electronic/remote acts at $25 (5 ILCS 312/3-104, as amended in 2022). Travel is billed separately, agreed upfront — common in Chicago given Loop traffic and the geography of Cook County.

Acceptable ID

  • Illinois driver license or Secretary of State ID card (current)
  • U.S. passport or passport card
  • U.S. military ID
  • Other current government-issued photo ID with signature
  • Personal knowledge of the signer by the notary

Witness Rules

Illinois requires the signer to personally appear before the notary. Wills require two credible witnesses; some Cook County real estate filings require a separate witness in addition to the notary — we'll confirm based on your packet before we arrive.

Remote Online Notarization (RON)

permitted

Illinois has authorized Remote Online Notarization since June 2022 (5 ILCS 312/6A-101 et seq.). Chicago signers can use a registered Illinois RON notary for most documents — note that some Cook County Recorder filings still require traditional ink-and-seal acknowledgment, which is where our in-person mobile service comes in.

What a Illinois Notary Cannot Do

  • Illinois notaries cannot certify copies of vital records or court documents.
  • Notaries are prohibited from giving legal advice, drafting documents, or advertising as a 'notario público'.
  • We do not notarize incomplete or undated documents.

Informational only — not legal advice. For your situation, consult a licensed Illinois attorney.
